The Impending Economic Downfall of the Imperium
This year is 10,193 A.G in the Imperium. The Financial Times has recently travelled to the Imperium, to sit in on a Council debate regarding the events transpiring in this secondary universe. The main conflict in the Imperium universe at the moment is regarding the current ruler: Paul Atreides. Some describe Atreides as a “tyrannical ruler” (Executrix of House Ordos, Andrew), while other states/actors feel that it is not worth it to fight Atreides due to the immense power he holds over his Fremen followers, the government, and economy. Nonetheless, the actions of the Houses and actors in the Imperium universe will have drastic consequences on the Imperium’s economy.
When asked about the current state of the economy, the Executrix of House Ordos has described the economy as, “at risk of a full-blown collapse”. After interviewing actors in the Imperium, we have seen that the potential collapse of the economy is due to Atreides’s actions on Arrakis, dubbed the “spice planet”. Atreides aims to destroy Arrakis, the source of all spice. the spice industry is arguably the most valuable and essential industry in this universe., The destruction of Arrakis will logically cause a severe economic recession for nearly everyone in the Imperium.
We had a chance to interview the Executrix of House Ordos on this matter.
House Ordos, can you tell me about the conflict occurring in the Imperium right now?
What we are seeing is a savage religious tyranny that is attempting to take control of the spice flow which is depriving me of my oh-so-dear profit. What I’d like to see is a complete annihilation of the religious fanaticism that is spreading throughout the precious fields of Arrakis.
Who would you say are your current allies?
I’ve talked a little with the Moritanis… as for my allies I am generally allied with anyone interested in circumventing Paul.
I recall that you have mentioned spice, or melange. As the Financial Times representative, I want to ask you: How is spice related to the financial aspects of the Imperium?
Spice is the lifeblood that keeps space going. All travel between countries… between planets requires a source of spice. This is impacted by bottomline everything. The Houses are feeling the pressure of the lack of spice. We have been unable to go through the process of transportation and everything else.
To add on to more financially related questions, can you describe the current economy in the Imperium right now? For example, is the economy strong? Is it weak?
The economy is at risk of a full blown collapse. Paul’s actions on Arrakis have put the entire Empire on a standstill. Everyone we have seen in the committee so far, their spice ships are dwindling. The effects of spice are incredibly helpful as well as addictive, and required for many things. What we’re seeing is not only a full blown collapse of the economy, it’s an issue that if not resolved soon, will result in the full-blown collapse of the Imperium itself.

With the Imperium economy at risk of collapse, things look bleak for the Houses at the moment. They must find a solution to stop Atreides’s harsh rule, or the houses may face economic recession. Some groups seek to oppose Atreides, while others are afraid of his power. Only time can tell what stance the Imperium will take against Atreides.
