Position Paper FAQs

  • A position paper is a one-page document not including citations to expand on your country or character’s stance on the topics found in the background guide.

  • Position papers are optional, but highly recommended for all delegates at HarvardMUN Canada 2026.

However, position papers are required if delegates wish to be in contention for awards. In other words, delegates must submit a position paper to be eligible to win an award.

Furthermore, position papers are very useful to prepare for the conference by learning and studying potential solutions that align with your country’s foreign policy.

  • Delegates are required to write one position paper per topic, for a total of two position papers.

  • Please submit your position paper through the google forms found above, or through this link.

  • To learn more about formatting and style guides, visit either HarvardMUN Boston’s preparation guide here, or HarvardMUN Canada’s guide here.

  • At HarvardMUN Canada 2026, committees will expect all position papers to be cited thoroughly to ensure accuracy of information.

Regarding the proper citation styles, either MLA 9th edition or Chicago Notes (Footnotes) 18/19th edition will be accepted. Position papers must choose one style and can not alternate between the two.
