“Partially their fault”: Bangladesh Delegate Criticize Developing African Countries for Requesting Foreign Aid

On May 30th, 2026, in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) committee, the delegate of Bangladesh criticized the members of the bloc “Cornerstone”, a bloc that primarily focuses on developing countries to unite together and build funding for telecommunication systems. The delegate of Bangladesh stated, “It is partially their fault and all they are doing is asking for foreign aid … they are asking for 6G like it is a cheap technology”, clearly showing the conflicts that delegates in ITU are going through.

The ITU has promoted unity in the previous press conference that happened last night at 9:15 pm. When criticized for the lack of new ideas and diversity of debate, the delegate of Zambia said, ”We would like to say that we are looking forward to a unity between blocs”(Dosunmu). Other countries such as France and Estonia also advocated for a “single resolution paper”.

However, ITU is currently struggling with merging with other blocs. “What are your major clauses in your paper?”(Muhammed) asked the delegate of Uganda to the delegate of France. Through this statement, we were able to see that the blocs of ITU do not have a significant understanding of each others’ working papers. Many blocs are currently discussing whether they would cooperate with other blocs or continue to keep their papers independent without external influence.

A great example will be the constant conflict between the bloc, TEDIP and Cornerstone. As mentioned previously, the delegate of Bangladesh stated that TEDIP bloc disagrees with Cornerstone bloc on their demand for 6G communication technology, stating that 6G technology is way too early for implementation in developing countries.

The ITU committee is showing little progression on the debate as well as a rare occurrence of no motion being passed. The Bangladesh delegate’s controversial statement in one of the interviews has clearly shown that ITU is lacking understanding and communication, in a committee where communication is so vital.
