SECRETARIAT

Secretariat Team

The HarvardMUN Canada Secretariat comprises Harvard College students from diverse educational backgrounds. They serve as the conference's leaders and visionaries, building on the principles of the Harvard International Relations Council to provide HarvardMUN Canada delegates with an enriching student experience. They play an active and everyday role in the operations, academics, and logistics.

  • Jimmy Merino

    USG of Finance

    —

Jimmy is a sophomore studying Economics and Government, originally from Boston, Massachusetts. He is deeply involved in Harvard’s Model United Nations community. At Harvard, Jimmy is a Director for HMUN Boston 2026 and also serves as Under-Secretary-General of Finance for HMUN China 2026. He competes with Harvard’s Intercollegiate Model UN team, where he especially enjoys the fast-paced strategy and collaboration of crisis committees. Beyond MUN, Jimmy is involved with the Harvard Institute of Politics, where he consults for and advises nonprofit organizations. His favorite MUN memory is chairing his first conference – watching delegates grow into more confident, thoughtful debaters over the course of the conference.

Beyond campus, he is the founder and chairman of Virtutem Populo, Miami’s largest student-led civic nonprofit organization. His favorite MUN memory is traveling to North Carolina with his team earlier this year.

Assistant Secretary-Generals

The Assistant-Secretary Generals (ASGs) are the high-school team behind HMUN Canada’s day-to-day operations. Working year-round alongside the Harvard Secretariat and Lead Coordinators, they take ownership of everything from delegate registration, communications, and Francophone support to sponsorships, media, logistics, and the Tournament of Champions. They also support the directors and assistant directors who lead our General Assembly, Economic & Social Council, and Crisis committees. Together, they ensure delegates have a well-organized, intellectually engaging conference experience from the first email to the final session.

  • Owen Zeng

    Chargé d'Affaires

Hello! I'm Owen Zeng, and I'm very excited to be your Chargé d'Affaires for HMUN Canada 2027! I've been an avid member of the Model UN community for over three years, competing and staffing across the nation. I've attended all sorts of committees throughout my time, but I especially love competing in or orchestrating elaborate military crisis committees. Outside of Model UN, I spend my time building computers, running, and losing in Counter-Strike. I can't wait for this iteration of HMUN Canada and look forward to seeing you all at the conference!
